Service Opportunity for all Chorus Families and Friends

UPDATE 10/26/2019 - Walton Chorus donates four boxes of clothing, school suplies, toys, and books to kids in Rurii, Kenya.

We have an incredible service opportunity to share with you. Our wonderful afternoon custodian, Anthony, is from a small village in Kenya called Rurii. Rurii is a very impoverished village. They do not have the money for many basic things. Most students walk barefoot to school, which is about 6 miles away. Their school is quite small and in poor condition. Some students have class outside with no shelter or overhang. Other students are lucky to have some sort of shelter, but it’s inadequate. The lucky ones have a library with a few books shared by many. They cannot afford to buy school staples like pencils, pens, erasers, chalk, books, etc… Many do not have adequate clothing. Please take a moment to view the photos at the bottom of this page or you can view the photos online.

Last year, Anthony won the yearly lottery and got his green card. Since coming to the United States in October 2018, Anthony has worked to collect these items to send back to his village. So far, he has sent six 24x24x27 boxes filled with supplies. To send boxes of such size costs about $250.00 per box, which Anthony has paid using his own money.

When approached by Anthony to see if we could do anything to help, Dr. Williams, Mrs. Allyn and the student officers jumped at the opportunity, but we need your help. Please consider donating the following used or new items or donating money to cover the shipping costs:

We will have boxes in the chorus room starting this today for all donated items. Money to use for shipping (cash or check made payable to Walton Choral Boosters) can be brought to school any day of next week and put in the Treasurer’s box. There will also be an opportunity to donate money at our Fall Concert on Monday, October 21st.

We firmly believe that being generous is one of life’s greatest joys. Please, would you consider joining us in our efforts to support Anthony and the children in his village? What a gift to be able to help others in need.

Thank you for your consideration,

Natalie W., Chorus President, Student Officers, Dr. Williams and Mrs. Allyn
